an experience that only benefits those that live through it. if your father has been a recovering alcoholic since before you were born have you learned anything about how to handle it? you might learn some if he was full-blown while you were alive but still not much.
|
Yeah he wasn't, but the guy that my parents always chose as our babysitter was. Needless to say, that whole experience left me scarred for life, mentally and emotionally. I'll pull a little life experience into this and put my devil's advocation aside for a moment. I lived with it as a kid, I've got the hospital bills and the afore mentioned issues from alcohol and drug related incidents. And I didn't need to take anything to learn any of it... Ok, back to my advocation.

true, but you learn. just because learning is painful doesn't make it bad. how many kids put something metal in a socket as a kid or touched the stove. it ****ing hurt, but you didn't do that **** again.
|
Very true, and as I said earlier I agree with the fact of experience being a fast teacher, but this is where subtleties some into play. Its when these kids start getting sick and so on that the attention focuses on the parents and how they could they let them let this happen. They blame the government for allowing it to happen. Government disowns all blame by saying that they didn't make them do anything and that they had a choice. Its a vicious cycle....

marijuana is infinately safer than booze or cigarettes. marijuana has never directly caused a human death. indirectly because people can't handle their own foolishness while stoned, sure. but that applies to drunks too. people also die of overdosing on booze, and on cigarettes. you can't od on pot. pot does NOT contain more tar then cigs, or more carbon monoxide, it contains considerably less.
you might beconfused by the fact that joints and blunts tend to carry more posions in them than cigarettes. however that is a chemical byproduct of the wrapping papers used in Jays and Bees. if you wrapped them in cigarette papers you'd get less chemicals, if you hit the bong or the bowl you'd get vastly less. marijuana by itself is so far from being poisonous it's funny.

No offense taken because one, as I've stated from square one I'm playing the other side to this debate because... well, I can. lol And secondly I take no offense being called a retard because I am merely pulling up scientifically and medically documented research that has been tested time and again for these results. I, am no one to talk about chemicals, toxins, etc because I am neither a medical physician, scientist or am formally educated in enough areas to prove such claims. So I just pull the data from people who do. Now I've also heard the argument that pot is safer than everything, no one ever died from pot, etc. On the note of it being cleaner through a bong, since its still illegal, most people still smoke joint because they are easily concealed and transported. And on the note of no one dying from a joint, well no one has died from snake bites or black widow bites either, just the complications that followed. Whether you smoke cigs, fags, whatever you call them, or joints you're intaking chemicals either way.

you are pulling at straws by overdramatizing. it's a common thing. i appreciate that you are playing devil's advocate but at least make a sensible case.

You're right, I got carried away and I'm sorry. lol I do that sometimes, guilty as charged and I apologize.

it's not like shooting someone to teach them the importance of gun safety, it's like putting a gun in their hands and taking them shooting. when i was a kid..11 or so my boy scout leader took us to the range, he was an air force master sgt fyi. we got to shoot real goddamned guns, i shot a ****ing machine fun. it was fun but feeling the power behind it. watching MY bullets from MY gun tear apart concrete like it was just some cracked mud. that taught me how dangerous and how powerful guns could be and how respectful i had to be of them
|
I am a United States Marine Corporal, and also one of my main job in the Corp was a Primary Marksmanship Instructor. Every firearm and their operation as well as proper safety was my religion. And taking a kid to a gun range, is like taking them to a science exhibit on smoking and showing them real char broiled lungs progressing down to healthy ones, in my personal opinion anyway.
At any rate, I'm going to end this on a personal note and leave professionalism aside. The fact is, is that there are a lot of dumb people out there; people who keep touching the burner basically and keep wondering why it hurts. And the laws we have are to basically blanket over those people. Is it fair? A lot could argue no, since there are decent and intelligent people out there. Yourself for one, I love debates like this. Unfortunately with the way the country works, they can't let things go on a case by case basis when it comes to minors and kids because they feel it is too risky and don't feel they can trust the parents to make the right decisions. |

they had spiked grass im afraid Simon. also Lye im sadly not. he was my dad's first shirt too!
all our mothers were furious afterwards since he did it on a whim and didn't even get parental permission either.
i thought it was cool as hell at the time, dangerous as **** a few years later and at 20 or so appreciated it a great deal for teaching me early the sort of respect i need for guns. |

I call bull****.
for one, a machine gun could mean anything. and if sameone is calling it a machine gun instead of saying wait kind of gun it was, then it could be a potato gun for all I know.
Full auto weapons are illegal to the public without a curio and relics license. unless this guy was on swat, he didn't have a machine gun, and if he was on swat, he wouldn't be a scout master in the ****ing boy scouts of america. |
