This being a website (which means it uses technology) and one even further commited to technology, I figure this could be a good place to hold this little debate.
We are currently in the technological era. We really upon technology like we do our air. Wether it is the machines that we use to fabricate our clothing, the machines that keep our crops fresh and healthy, or the ones that make it possible for me to type this, we are relying upon technology to take us higher and higher.
So my question, is this going to take us all the closer to the god-hood that man has been trying to obtain since its birth, or is this a step backwards, and when that one thing goes wrong, and all of this crashes down, and we are back to stone and rocks, will the last 500 (Give or take) years be a waste?
So, to add another question, do you think it was wise of man to invest so much into machinery, or should he have continued to improve upon "natural" techniques (Making tools from wood/bone, growing crops "naturally", hunting for meat)?
I'd love to hear everyone's thoughts on this matter.

i’m just a bad actor stuck with a ****ty script, All of my lines are cheap and the cast

my mistress wasn't rich so i've been formatted to fit your tv screen, the film went
straight to tape, i'll bow out quietly. so quietly.
Despite what my Econ teacher thinks, i do listen sometimes.
It is good to have the technology for communication and things that we have, but at some point, no one's going to have a job, because machines will be doing every human job available. Everyone will be out of work. Except the people who create/design machinery or supply steel and the like.
I think this century will truly be a turning point in the evolution of man. With the semi-recent invention of the internet and computers becoming more and more efficient and powerful, we humans are able to accomplish more than ever before. I think the good and the bad that have arisen from recent technological advancements are more or less equal right now. Things will gradually over time lean to one side or the other, however. The internet is like a pandora's box of power. With it, we can transfer data and communicate faster than ever before. We can pay our bills, talk with people from around the globe (as we are doing right now), enjoy games with others, and much more.
On the flip-side, we can destroy vast data banks and cause the corruption of integral computer-based infrastructures. Computers and the internet are like a big slab of clay; its users make whatever they wish and do whatever they wish with it. A time of great change is upon us all. With the recent introduction of broadband internet access, people have exponentially more abilities than before. On top of it all, we can access this power in the palm of our hands with state-of-the-art PDA devices and whatnot. We will see in coming decades which way mankind chooses to use this tremendous power...
but uh...
thinking the country and the days we used to live in our own faeces were so damned perfect. Well, I've got news for you : they weren't. It's fine to sit here, now (at your computer) and complain about how it's all getting out of control, but if someone took away all your widescreen TVs and gaming consoles, how boring would your life be? I don't see being entertained by a giant field and a piece of fluff as a good thing, more depressing. Then, when you'd grown up you'd get to slave away on some disgusting farm (yeah, they look idyllic from afar, but don't get too close...). You'd have to toil permanently just to survive. And at that, it wouldn't be for long, because, without medical science, we'd all die by the age of 30 from pneumonia. Great.
I know it seems, when some people obsess over technology, a little worrying. But it's just one of the more trivial applications of things that are usually very important to the way we live. And some people are just a little weird and obsessive, anyways (myself included). And certain things do disgust me, but these have more to do with the misuse of technology (weapons of war, witholding hospital facilites/medicines from those that can't afford it) than the technology itself. Basically, technology is necessary, and so long as we oppose those who misuse it, and stay quite grounded in the real world outselves (heh, we're probably not going to 'evolve' xD) then I have no problems with it. It's like Uncle Ben says - "With great power comes great responsibility"
I think that technology is necessary. With machines doing the manual labor, we can divert our effort to mental and philosophical pusuits. If every day you toiled in a field, would you come home and discuss the meaning of life or where the universe came from.
Also, we can all become one people through communication, instead of hundreds of waring feudal states. think of how much knowledge would be lost or never exist if countries or continents kept to themselves. The printing press wouldn't have come to europe from Asia, and it would still be in the dark ages. After, that america would not have been discovered and most of history would have been different.
finaly, without technology, many people would not be alive. We couldn't grow enough food for 6 billion people, or the medicine to keep them alive past 35.
I am sorry if i sounded like an essay. i wanted to complete my thought (or crazy rant).
Technology is great right now, and I have a LOT of respect for the creators of the new technology we experience. The downfall is, people today are so dependent on technology, and if something goes wrong, there would be panic and chaos all over. I think that was the big issue with the whole Y2K thing, and we need to stop being so dependent.

WEll First you'll need to define technology because a rock made into a simple hand axe is a form of technology heck the wheel definately tech.It sounded like you said "hey just formthe past 40 years we werent living as cavemens but anytime before 1900s means stone ages!!!"Thats not what you probaly meant but hey the lattern is a form of technology.Everything even metal is a natural component of this planet.Do you see what I'm saying? Now if oyuwant to know if technology in this day and age(Computer Ages)Not all humans on this planet live like that. There are alot of people who still live in the 4th world(wood and stone tools in groups of small villages you know). Then central asia they still live like they did a thousand years ago.
Now technology is good the stone tools are a form of technology as stated above. But current technology can be appoorove like inthe state I live in our source of electricity is Windmill & sadly still coal.My house uses the Windmill services its the samething nad its cheaper so I don't know why the conservations in the USA are afraid of change.
Technology will continue to serve as a tool for us humans to survive until the end of time (which sadly is coming soon). So I say technology is a good thing.
