Default  Homosexuality and Incest: According to Religion and Science
03.06.04, 19:40:53

I posted this topic as a medium for a mature discussion on the subject. Anyone is welcome to express their thoughts on the matter. I am Christian, therefore I go by the rules of the Bible, if anyone else wants to lay down the standards of his own religion, let him, whether those standards agree or disagree.

Irrational posts such as "Homosexuality sucks", "Incest is disgusting", "Religion is stupid", "Science is stuck-up" and any other such posts are severely discouraged.

For starters, most people believe that Incest is bad. Homosexuality is more accepted but it is still under heavy attack from religious groups.

However, the original Bible does not really condemn Homosexuality outright; rather it limits Homosexuality to acceptable (at that time) standards. The religious texts concerning the matter, such as Genesis 19 and Leviticus 18, would be too many for this post. Please see this site for more detailed studies on the matter.

http://www.religioustolerance.org/hom_bibi.htm

Incest as well, is rather present in the Bible. It would not be too hard to imagine how the the first family "multiplied" from Adam and Eve. Lot, Jacob, and many others committed incest. However, these acts were before the Leviticus, which(as far as I know) was the only given account of rules concerning incest. After the Leviticus, particularly chapter 18, incest was discouraged.

Now for the play of Science.

Many people, religious or not, judge incest as "bad" because of its supposedly high risk of genetic mutations and deformities. May I add however, that these genetic tragedies are not absolute, that babies born from incest are often enough normal.

Homosexuality, on the other hand, is more accepted also because there is supposedly no chance of a homosexual couple having a baby. However, with the advent of artificial birth techniques, having a baby from a homosexual relationship IS possible. These techniques have their own ethical reservations, but what couple in love could resist having a child of their own.

On a side note, the same techniques could also be used to eliminate the chance of gene malformations in babies born of incest.

After going through everything I could find, I came to a strange conclusion.

According to both Science and Religion, Incest is a more advisable coupling than Homosexuality.

What about you? What do you think?

Alright, here is my take on incest. I do not support incest mainly because my entire family is a disgusting pool of rather high quality but flawed genetics. now, if they where hot as **** and i had a rather bad case of Edipus's syndrome thing then i might consider but as it is then no.
Homosexuality: I am not against homosexuality, nor am i for it. I take a neutral stand on this rather controvercial subject.
Your one flaw in that argument that i am going to challange is you say this:
Quote:

I challange that, As of this day the human genome HAS NOT been mapped. To solve genetic problems that could result of a incestual childbirth one needs to have mapped the human genome, mapped the childs genome and determined what is wrong with it. THEN one needs to find a way to solve the problem, even if there is one.
As of my knowlage, your claim that a childbirth from two gay members, is pretty much based on nothing. To date there have been no gay childbriths without a gender switch of one of the members and even then, (if i recall corerctly) it was discouraged. There have been many adoptions and in lesbian couples, artificial insemination has been documented of being used in the past. Hence, your claim that there is childbirth from two gay people is unfounded on any basis in fact.

BOOYA. and even if you disprove me, the BOOYA still stands.

I personally don't follow any religious teachings. I may take a bit of wisdom here or an idea there, but I don't adhere to any specific belief system. Thus, I have zero moral obligations to incest - in fact I fail to see where it came about from. Both Biblically and in tribal times, whichever one you may believe, incest was common and almost expected. Relationships outside the tribe were mainly political. Admitedly, our ancestors were aware that breeding two strong people would likely result in a strong baby, but that would only serve to further incest should a family produce a number of excellent children. I honestly can't fathom it's origin.

Anyway, from a scientific point of view it is near-inevitable that an incestuous family line will be unable to reproduce within ten generations. But in ONE generation, the issue is surely much smaller. And as I have pointed out somewhere else in a similar thread, whilst a genetic malfunction may be transmitted to the child, surely genetic benefits have a higher chance of being passed on as well? So I have no moral obligation to incest, and little scientific objection.

Homosexuality I also have no problem with. Again, not being religous I have no external influence telling me I should believe anything, and I have come to the personal conclusion that gay people are free to be gay, and they are doing nothing wrong. Scientifically, of course homosexuals are incapable of reproduction without aid, but I really don't think we have a crisis of low population levels in the world today.

So I have no problem with either. Incest, from a scientific level, may be a small worry, but not for some decades, even centuries. And there's the natural 'Ick!' factor we've had ingrained into us about it. But logicallty thinking, I have no problems.

Then I'm not one for sexual condemnation of any kind except where someone is doing something they don't want to.
