Refreshed- or at least slightly refreshed.
Of course a warm shower felt good in the morning.
"Commander Dromar Darkwind has been assassinated," said a voice from nowhere. In a flash, Karin saw her youth self being bullied by a clan of large girls...
"Karin's stupid, ugly, and we'll kick dirt all over her until she does all of our homework..." The children laughed, and Karin cried as she recieved the blow that had resulted in 14 stitches in the head.
"We've recieved intelligence that their base was destroyed by a nuclear bomb. I'm sorry, Ms. Swift. They are no more," the voice echoed horribly, and it hit her. She flashed back to her youth days, but her teen years instead, where she was driven to a corner in boarding school.
"Hey, *****!" said the girl bullying her. "I'll give you more stitches to follow that one." Again, the blow had been to the head, and it knocked her out, but the girls continued to pound on the slight little Karin. This episode had hospitalized her for a week with a concussion, several broken ribs, and many bruises and contusions and all the girls were expelled, except for her.
Karin moaned...
"STOP! STOP!"
Karin, who had dozed off on the shower wall, awoke with a start, and turned off the water, figuring that some time had gone by. She ran into her past again, an even had a slight headache from watching it. She recalled that when she was bullied, she'd actually gotten that group of girl's bad side for standing up for a small boy named Clyde Palm. Sadly, Clyde died 5 months later in a tragic car accident. Karin's eyes were streaming at the memory. After all she stood up for the small boy, he died as a result of a drunk driver. But it was time to look past it, for she was now a Mercenary and not a schoolgirl.
After all, it was suitable to meet the leader in the morning, especially in this sort of organization. In reality, she was anxious to see if they were going to do today. Karin had donned her clothes and all of her effects and was in the midst of depositing a solid line of eyeliner. Though, as it seemed, neither the shower nor the eyeliner made the the dark gray circles wash away, and it became more apparent that she was more anxious for a nap than a mission. How was she to present herself if every pore of her face emanated tiredness and fatigue?
Cursing under her breath, she left the domain of which triggered the lack of sleep the night before and proceeded to the meal hall.
"Good morning, Commander Darkwind," nodded Karin, attempting to absorb her tiredness, but stifling a yawn all the same. "Y-y-ou have a good night sleep?"
"I was wondering- are we training today, perhaps? If so, on what grounds?" |
