Nah, I didn't have time to design proper business cards, so I left it and just stuck my artists statement up with a link to my website and left it at that. I still need to design some cards though for mailshots and stuff, I kind of have the format I want to use worked out, I just need to get to making it happen.

Out of interest have you sold a piece of work?

Nah, not really, closest I've come to actually selling a piece was a drawing got auctioned off for thirty quid at an auction for children in need down the pub, but in fairness I haven't really been aggressively trying to sell stuff or submit it or get it published yet, people have asked me to do commissions at art workshops but I turned them down because first of all I was busy at the time doing the actual workshop and secondly because I don't really want to be known for doing ****ty images with paint pens on pound shop canvases.
So to date, really all I've done is a flyer for a local band, that children in need thing, I won a competition as a kid and got a copy of Metal Gear Solid, I've done flyers and posters for a local youth service (free though), I've taught at art workshops (£15/hr) and as a child at primary school I did some picture that went around the local towns on some greetings card that got sent out.
I'm hopinh to top that within the next year though, I've just finished uni and it looks like I've passed so I'm having a little break but pretty soon I'm going to start painting to bolster my portfolio a little and broaden my skillset, I'm going to make those business cards and start sending them out with portfolio submissions to agencies and publishers, I'm going to edit Fatman a little and see if I can get the book published (that would be a great break) and with any luck if things go well I may exhibit some work next year and will start entering competitions more regularly, I just missed the Macmillan and Jerwood things, but there's plenty of other things coming up. |
