The dust settled around that long street slowly. A low gruff moan pierced the silence, followed that familiar hollow thud as the larger of the two men fell to the desert floor, his face planted there painfully and permanently. Red began to seep from the large man, turning the sand into rust. A closer look upon the smaller of the men revealed the source of the thunder that had dropped the large one with unnatural ease. It twirled (fast) on that mans finger before it rested safely inside his long black coat. Mixed with the underlying heat, one could easily confuse him as some sort of angelic being, able to kill without touching, wings flapping about as if they had a mind of their own.
But he was no angel, that man. He barely a man was. In that hot desert heat, the mind played tricks on the most hardened of animals. And those with hope quickly reconsidered their dreams as the man-priest flashed a quick glance at the crowd. Now he seemed like a reaping devil. One that hell itself spewed out of its deepest womb. The brown eyes glowed with an ethereal red hue, it seemed. Again, the heat fooled the mind. Then, in an act of pure satisfaction, the man-priest smiled the most evil of smiles. Child-like almost. It walked off in the same manner in which it came. Hands folded behind his back, chest out high. And whistling that same strange tune.
All was quiet as he walked down the street that, by now, was beginning to flood with the remaining crowd. They lined up behind the man-priest almost in sync with each other. But far back enough to clear the area once more. In case the man-priest’s thirst had not been quenched. They watched him intently as he careened into the bar a couple of paces ahead. The patrons that had been inside spewed out like roaches. Then all was silent except for that same whistle. |
