Final Fantasy Republic's Rules
- Revived -

Final Fantasy Republic is one of the few internet communities left which is known for the mature nature of its members, and quality of discussion--whether serious or in jest. The ones who have continuously contributed to the forum and site have done so because of the affiliation they feel with other members here, not because the Final Fantasy discussion is particularly riveting.

With that said, it is of the utmost importance to define a suitable list of forum rules which would allow members to maintain personality, but keep the site inviting to possible new members. A nice balance is what is needed here; while many members have known each other for years and should still feel as though this is their online home, it is important for the future success of the site to be enticing to new comers as well.

The rules were stated clearly upon registration and are basically the same throughout nearly every forum on the internet. If all members (registered, veterans and staff) remember this, abiding by these rules should be no problem.

**********

Spamming: Spam are posts that either takes away from the value of a thread or completely derails the topic (disrupting the natural flow of the conversation). Blatant thread hijacking is not tolerated and will be warned as spam. Double-posts are not permitted and will be edited and deleted by a moderator. Spam is not permitted outside of the Veteran Plaza, Yevon Area, and Sector 7 Playground. If a thread eventually gets derailed, it is not considered spam, but may be directed back on topic if a moderator feels it necessary to do so. "QFT" posts are also considered spam if they aren't followed by something that does contribute to discussion. If you can't contribute anything, don't bother posting.

Advertising Advertisements for items of monetary value in signatures, posts, private messages or anything is not allowed and the poster will either be warned accordingly if they are caught doing so. Bots who automatically post advertisements for stuff like free I-pods or whatnot, or actual persons who join for the pure reason to advertise will instantly receive an IP ban and have their posts removed from the forum.

Advertisement for other websites that do not directly sell anything of monetary value (i.e. fansites) is allowed, but only in the Webmaster's Pub and in signatures. All advertising outside these areas is prohibited. This includes, but is not limited to, private messages, posts outside the webmaster's pub, etcetera. Linking to another website is allowed if the post or topic allows it, but only then. Other cases will be judged as the moderator who notices it sees fit.

Unsolicited private messages advertising for other websites are not allowed, period. Final Fantasy Republic reserves the right to directly access the database and read your private messages as well as the forthcoming responses if we suspect you are sending unsolicited advertising PMs.

Advertising for Final Fantasy XI gold, either to buy or harvest it for money, is also not allowed.

Flaming: Flaming is publicly attacking another member of the boards. It is non-constructive and harmful; there is a difference between joking and actual flaming, and for the most part it is pretty evident, but a staffer may need to use their own discretion to determine if a comment was made in jest. If a forum member is earnestly offended by a comment another person made, they are to report it to an active staff member so it may be dealt with promptly.

Offensive Material: Offensive material is a vast topic and covers everything from sexually explicit images to racial issues. Because of the nature of the forum, it is a reoccurring joke in most cases, but if another makes an honest complaint about the material, it will be removed. Comments that clearly aren't jokes will be removed immediately, no questions asked. However, images which show nipples or genitalia will be removed if contained in a signature or avatar. Art threads must be labeled with a [MATURE] tag in the title to provide fair warning to everyone if there is such nudity AND it must be done in a tasteful manner (meaning no hentai, yaoi, etc.). Graphics in the Graphical Asylum may not show nipples or genitalia. Links to any pornography or offensive material is not permitted ANYWHERE on the forums either, even if there is a warning in the thread.

Plagiarism: Plagiarism has always been and will always be a strict and simple no. Since the site may be held responsible for plagiarized material, it is pertinent that every single member understands that it is against the rules and could result in a permanent ban.

Thread Necromancy: Old threads are not to be revived. That is all. If a member wishes to bring up a previously discussed topic, they may just write a new thread on the topic. The first case of thread necromancy from a member will result in a friendly warning; if they fail to comply, however, official warnings may be issued.

Multiple Accounts: Multiple registered accounts are never permitted. If a member is discovered to have made a second active account, it will be banned (not merged) and an official warning will be issued to the other account. No questions.

Trolling: Trolling is attempting to provoke a member to flame or break forum rules (explained in simplest terms). It is generally non-offensive, but could lead to some senseless, avoidable drama. Since the issue of trolling is very difficult to properly assess, it may be discussed between whichever staff members are currently online.

**********

Members have the right to challenge an official warning; in which case, it will be brought before the entire staff for a final review. This does not, however, imply that all challenged warnings will be revoked. If a majority of staffers believe it was valid, then it will remain so.

If a member receives a friendly warning for a light offense, but they fail to comply with the rules, they will be sent an official warning, which will be noted in the staff lounge.
