Someone has to stay home, I'd rather it be the supposed more responsible and capable gender as you say. War is for drones, not for tacticians and cool heads, they spend their time in the rooms and assorted encampants strategizing, the grunts get drafted, and they do the fighting. Maybe sending random people into the fray of war is just asking for another Viet Nam, but this really can't apply, considering the grounds wars are to be fought on these days, that being by small task forces, long range missles, air strikes, and crafty espionage. There really isn't a forseeable reason for a draft, but if it were to be so, I'd rather it be specified for men. Besides, who said there's anything wrong with notions of chivalry? It's a dignified and charming practice compared to today's world of filth and indecency.
Rights really have nothing to do with it, the women can always enlist. It's really no different from narrowing out mental cases and convicted felons, society has just taught us something that is hard to unlearn, and that is that men are generally more comfortable and fit for battle. This isn't to say there aren't women out there who would be willing to plug some rounds into a guy, or step on a few throats, or to mercilessly drop napalm on an outpost of hundreds, but can you honestly tell me it's just as common as in men? Men and women are different, there's no denying that, and trying to completely equalize them is a nightmare, in more than one sense. |
